The Heart and Craft of Life Writing

About Sharon Lippincott

Sharon LippincottI am a life writing instructor and coach, and the author of three books, The Heart and Craft of Lifestory Writing, The Albuquerque Years, and Meetings: Do’s, Don’ts, and Donuts, and the popular “Heart and Craft of Lifestory Writing” blog. I have been a published author for over twenty-five years on business, professional and general interest topics. My current work is focused on creative nonfiction and specializes in lifestories. An active member of several writing groups, both real-time and on the Internet, I have written over 700 stories, essays, and articles about life experiences, observations and the writing process.

My professional background is in training and development. After earning a master’s degree in psychology, I spent twenty years developing and conducting customized staff development programs for businesses and organizations, such as US Steel, PNC Bank, United Way, and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. I have held faculty appointments at Central Washington University and Columbia Basin College and earned the Distinguished Toastmaster award from Toastmasters, International. I live in Pennsylvania and often speak to organizations and groups locally and across the country, and I coach writers who need personal help with writing or compiling finished projects.

One of my main passions is tickling people's brains to urge them to think about things in new ways, find new interests they didn't know they had, and reach further than they thought they could. I love to help people find their own best approach to writing. I firmly believe that a person's writing style and voice is as unique as a fingerprint, and you should approach writing in a way that fits your needs and personality. I believe star-shaped writers should avoid oval-shaped writing plans. My advice is to listen to your heart and let it be your guide. A memoir is your story, and of all the things you ever do, this should be done your way!

Helping people get excited about leaving a legacy of their personal history is the most rewarding work I've ever done, and I look forward to each new opportunity. In this wonderful Internet Age, it's now possible to work with individuals and groups around the world, and that gives me goosebumps!
